Why use a bamboo toothbrush
The alternatives to using a plastic toothbrush
Over the last few years whilst thinking about becoming more eco friendly we as a family have been looking at everyday items that we are consuming. One of the key items used everyday is a toothbrush.
This can be the first step for some people in wanting to become more eco friendly. The market over the years has been full of plastic based toothbrushes but now there are alternatives. Say hello to the bamboo toothbrush.
Why is a bamboo toothbrush eco friendly?
Bamboo is a natural plant and fully biodegradable. Bamboo is also one of the fastest growing plants, so we have lots of resources available without damaging too much of the environment.
The old plastic toothbrushes
Plastic toothbrushes are polypropylene based plastic (handle) and nylon (bristles), which are both sourced from non-renewable fossil fuels. They are essentially indestructible, which means that the first toothbrush we had when we were kids is still polluting the planet in some form, possibly in landfill or worse in the sea.
Reasons to move to bamboo toothbrushes
You are helping with a product which is eco friendly and biodegradable. Not using a product that can harm the environment when finished with. Plus, less pollution in the way it is manufactured and a natural plant based alternative product.
The Hydrophil range of bamboo toothbrushes are carbon neutral, they offset the CO2 emission from the production process. Therefore, you are reducing your personal carbon footprint with these products.
